Experiment on Compressive Properties of Ice with Cotton Fiber

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2016, Vol 37, Issue 6

Abstract

The universal material testing machine was used to measure uniaxial compressive strength of ice with fiber mass fraction 0%,3%,6%,9%,12% respectively over a strain rate range from 10-3/ s to 10-1/ s. The stress strain curves of ice with different cotton fiber under different strain rates were obtained. The effects of strain rate and cotton fiber mass fraction on the mechanical properties of ice were studied. The experimental results show that the compressive strength of the ice is obviously dependent on strain rate. And the compressive strength and toughness of ice can be improved by the cotton fiber. Under the strain rate of 10-3/ s,the compressive strength of the ice decreases with the increase of the cotton fiber mass fraction when the cotton fiber mass fraction is over 6%. Under the strain rate of 10-1/ s,the compressive strength of the ice increases with the increase of the cotton fiber mass fraction.
