FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES TO “SCIENTIST”

Abstract

The research was conducted with 95 first-year students at Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Education in 2016-2017 academic year. In the study, the point of view of the education faculty students to the scientist was researched. Students think that scientists are in the most exploratory category. According to the students, the study area of the scientist is mostly natural sciences such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy. Einsteind is the first scientist to come to mind of students. Aziz Sancar is the most repeated Tukish scientist. Scientists are thought to be researchers, antisocial, ambitious, curious, opentoinnovation, intelligent and objective. Scientists wear glasses, whitegowns, shirts and thtrousers; they study laboratory, library, nature, room etc. White and scattered hair, which does not matter to the external appearance, etc. Tools used by scientists include tubes, books, pens, computers, chemical materials. All of the students answered that they are not scientists at their surroundings. In addition, the vast majority of students do not see their lecturers at universities as a scientist.
