FEMALE STEREOTYPES IN W.S. MAUGHAM’S NOVELLAS

Abstract
We propose the results of the gender stereotype analysis in the English fiction of the beginning of XX. The conclusions are based on the study of the female images in the novellas by the famous English writer William Somerset Maughman. His works were chosen, because he is a recognized master depicting the lives of the English middle class. As the texts for the analysis we choose the nine stories of different years. We suppose the author represents the general tendency in the female image in the English society of that time.
