Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma Presenting With Frontal Bone Metastasis - A Rare Case Report
Journal Title: Pathology And Laboratory Medicine - Year 2018, Vol 9, Issue 2
Abstract
Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common well differentiated malignant tumor after papillary carcinoma amongst all thyroid malignancy, account for 10-20% cases. FTC has high tendency to spread through hematogenous route and bone is the second most common site for metastasis after lung. Amongst the bones metastasis from FTC skull is the rare site. Here we are reporting a case of 50-year-old female presented with a huge mass in the frontal region of the skull and a mass in midline of neck. Spiral CT scan of brain report revealed well defined heterogeneous bony destructive lesion in frontal bone in midline involving frontal sinus and extended to scalp tissue and no evidence of intracranial extension. Fine needle aspiration cytology was done in both frontal swelling and midline neck swelling. Smears prepared form thyroid swelling revealed features of follicular neoplasm and smears prepared form frontal swelling also showed cell forming follicular pattern and cell morphology was similar to follicular neoplasm, suggestive of metastatic deposited from follicular thyroid carcinoma .
