FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF DICLOFENAC GEL
Journal Title: Mintage journal of pharmaceutical and medical sciences - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 4
Abstract
Objective: The objective of the study was to develop a topical gel of diclofenac sodium (DS) 1%. Methods: Hydrophilic polymers like Carbopol 940 of varying concentrations were used in an attempt to develop topical hydrogel formulations of diclofenac sodium. Agitation followed by neutralization with neutralizing agent was done to get gel. Evaluation tests for visual appearance, pH, viscosity, spreadability, drug content, ex vivo drug release were carried out. Results: From the study it was concluded that F3 batch of gel containing diclofenac showed good homogeneity, spreadability, pH value and rheological properties within the limits allowed for dermatological preparations. No prominent changes in physicochemical properties of formulation were observed after exposure to accelerated conditions of temperature (40 ± 2oC) and humidity conditions (75 ± 5%RH).Conclusion: It was observed that dissolution profile of diclofenac is more in F3 batch and showed good characteristics for drug delivery.
