Formulation development and evaluation of mefenamic acid microemulsion
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
The present study was conducted to formulate Microemulsion of Mefenamic acid using Tween 80 as surfactant. Various formulations were prepared using pseudo ternary phase diagram and analysed. The thermodynamic stability and percent transmittance of formulations selected from the phase diagram was statistically significant. Therefore, microemulsion, a multipurpose technology, can be exploited in drug delivery for poorly soluble drugs. This technical note explains the basis for calculation and construction of pseudoternary phase diagrams and, most important, explains selection of the formulations from the phase diagrams to avoid metastable formulations having minimum surfactant concentration in the least possible time.
