FROM THE EMBLEM TO THE EKPHRASIS: THE INTERMEDIAL POETICS OF HRYHORY SKOVORODA’S TREATISE: «КНИЖЕЧКА, НАЗЫВАЕМАЯ SILENUS ALCIBIADIS, СИРЂЧЬ ИКОНА АЛКІВІАДСКАЯ»

Abstract
The article deals with the connection between the emblematic Baroque art and philosophical prose of Hryhoriy Skovoroda. The aim of this article is in research of Hryhory Skovoroda’s philosophical treatise «Книжечка, называемая Silenus Alcibiadis, сирЂчь Икона Алківіадская»in the light of contemporary humanitarian discourse, particularly intermedial studies. As theoretical approach intermediality consider arts not in their own historical developments and with their own rules and specifications, but in the broader context of their differences and co-relations. The study argues that popular baroque images of silenus, the icon, the sphinx and the snake play a crucial role in the text. The study also shows how the explication of ecphrasis is conducted on thematic and composi-tional levels of the text. The ecphrasis is interpreted as an artistic tool which allows the author to situate the text in realm of the sa-cred and imply the need for the reader’s inner vision of the images.
