Abstract
The purpose of the paper is a systematic and comprehensive analysis of prospective modality in contemporary Spanish, considering the peculiarities of the functioning of the modes of expressing modal meanings of prospectivity at the level of the language system. The purpose of the work identified the main tasks: to consider the grammatical means of prospective modality in the modern Spanish language; to consider the main types of modality which are typical for the future forms in modern Spanish; to model the functional-semantic field of the category of future on the material of the Spanish language. The research investigated that the most successful form of presentation of the Futuro field is a model of functional-semantic field of the category of futurality, the construction of which involves the separation of the center – nexus, microfields and a periphery. The main value of the field method for linguistics can be explained by its integrative nature, the tracing of the process of expressing certain semantics (futurality) in various ways. In fact, functional-semantic field is an attempt to model the integration of lexical and grammatical unities / categories. Therefore, they are considered as integral fields. This approach is contingent on the fact that many phenomena of language have a field structure. Thus, future periods of the Indicative system of Spanish are characterized by two meanings: temporal and modal. Very often there is a phenomenon of displacement of the time meaning with the modal one. Overall, at the level of linguistic semantics the category of future tense is transmitted as a semantic category of futurality which is defined as a deictic vector category. It expresses the relation of a described event with the time after the moment of speaking. Each microfield that forms the Futuro macrofield is formed by two categorical meanings (temporal and modal). The modal meaning is more frequent of two meanings of futural imperfect and futural perfect (modal and temporal) that can be key or dominant. The result of the interaction between the Futuro macrofield and the semantic zones of the Presente, Pretérito macrofields, Subjunctive and Imperativo macrofields is the formation of additional categorical meanings that mainly become modal connotations in the discourse realization.
