Abstract

The novel of Vladimir Kiselyov is an art work, which can be traced clearly postmodern system of the artistic images, plot, where moral and aesthetic stance of the writer goes to universal moral values. It is characterized by a deep understanding of the essence of the Ukrainian language as the basis of people’s national consciousness formation. Particular attention is paid to the poem of tragi-cally early deceased poet Leonid Kiselyov (the son of the writer) «But everything in the world – only song in Ukrainian». It reminds the reader of the critical role played by language in the life of any nation. The epitome of the best features of Ukrainian people in the novel can be regarded as the image of the protagonist’s mother, in which the writer identifies primarily dedication to his national roots, the desire to preserve the Ukrainian language. As the result of the study we came to conclusions: Vladimir Kiselyov’s novel was created in a very difficult time for the Ukrainian language and culture, the time that has defined its great value in their preservation; in the novel of Vladimir Kiselyov «postmodern layer» is clearly traced, which, obviously, should be explained by the author’s personality and his attitude to the Russian, Ukrainian and world culture; images of characters in the novel were created by the author in realistic way, and one of the most important crite-ria of spirituality, integrity of these images is their attitude to the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian culture; mentioned above fea-tures of the novel’s poetics and the moral-aesthetic position of the writer allow to name novel by Vladimir Kiselyov a unique attempt to defend the Ukrainian word (wider – Ukrainian beginning in life) in the era of totalitarianism.
