FUTURE ENERGY SCENARIOS – LOCALLY FROM LOCAL SOURCES
Journal Title: Role of Higher Education Institutions in Society: Challenges, Tendencies and Perspectives - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
The future challenge in global context is the continuous growth and its growing demand for energy, but not provided on the earlier terms. Both the environmental pressure, e.g. global climate change phenomenon and global economic need for sustainable growth seek for new realizable solutions. The ongoing financial crisis and its effects on global society, economy, and corporations havefinally revealed the stability and ultimately the very existence of the social and market system depends on responsible practices, sustainable business models, and proactive management of the impact of business on society. In energy sector, sustainability is intervening in all levels of the society, from international energy policy to local needs. It has been argued that the future will be renewable energy solutions. But the question is that how and when it happens. In our paper, we will examine the renewable energy sector and present alternative future scenarios for sustainable community. The aim is also to provide alternative perspectives how to response to the disruptive business challenge in energy sector, i.e. the continuous interplay between the existing energy infrastructure and new renewable energy solutions with new business opportunities. We will describe a case study in which company One1 Ltd (www.one1.fi) meets the future challenges by creating renewable hybrid energy solutions together with local society from local energy sources.
