Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 10

Abstract

This paper critically examines perceived psychological issues in Arthur Miller's All My Sons such as guilt, responsibility, ideality, practicality and sacrifice as qualities of the human beingthat were existential in its nature. The paper briefly explores their concepts as the reflections of the lifestyle choices. For instance, guilt originates from human selfish greed, commit or suicide, murderer, and stubborn near-sighted foolishness which find its universal presence in almost any human society.I promote this notion in Miller's All My Sons that any form of self- assessment when guilt is present will drive both a sense of personal failure and the feeling of indebtedness to other human beings, resulting in a general sense of anxiety. In Arthur Miller's All My Sons sacrifice also plays a crucial role in almost every part of the play. Miller explores the impact of sacrifices made for one’s family versus humanity as a whole, explicitly the direction and intention of a sacrifice. As the second part of this paper, I will identify and explain scarify more as what I consider to be the most important in the play. At the end I am going to result that the aftermath of the said psychological issues and further to that the Second World War left a huge imprint on American Life or any industrialized society. So through considering such issues there would be an intense desire to live comfortably, to be settled, to be stable to be normal.
