HEALTH PROMOTION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF POLISH AVIATORS

Abstract
Environmental condition work of aviation personnel created certain hazard for health and special professional requirements putting for pilots are connected with necessity of excellent psychophysical fitness. Prophylaxis activity mainly in range of profitable change of style of life decrease risk of flight accident from the health reasons and contribute for prolonging professional carrier of experienced pilots. The first level of prophylaxis constitute certain selection to the profession based on initial medical examination. One from the main task of prophylactic activity is current analysis of the reasons mobility and unfitness to profession of flying personnel. Epidemiological research of military aviation personnel showed, the most frequent reason of professional unfitness in 1990-1999 were functional disorders of neurological system (43%), on second place were cardiovascular disease (24%) and on third disorders of spine (15%). Together those three groups of diseases were reason of 82% permanent unfitness for flying. In case of civil aviation personnel the main reason of unfitness constituted cardiovascular diseases. Prophylaxis activity was directed mainly for those three groups of diseases. Based on existing organizing structure of medical care in military aviation the complementary health promotion programme and prophylaxis of cardio-vascular diseases was introduced in phases at three main levels of health services: central in Military Institute of Aviation Medicine, intermediate in Military Training-Fitness Centers and destination in military units. For the promotion of health was included permanent training of aviation surgeons working in military units and Military Training-Fitness Centers. Those surgeons directly performed of medical training for aviation personnel and they had significant influence for accomplish prophylaxis recommendation in aviation personnel environment. Effectiveness of promotion programme and prophylaxis of cardio-vascular diseases was assess on the base of experimental data concerning of awareness sphere and behavior as well as somatic health of aviation personnel. Effectiveness of applied programme mainly showed profitable changes of awareness and healthy behaviors of aviation personnel, the first of all it was found: increase of the number of pilots inclined to improvement of their health and knowledge in this area. It was note increase of the number of individuals who embarked on health diets and systematic physical activity. In positive health indices was state increase of physical capacity and favorable modification of lipid profile. It was not receive profitable results in range of decreasing of numbers of smokers and reduction of overweight and obesity.
