Abstract
The article studies the historical aspect of the development of criminal legislation on the protection of water resources before the beginning of the XIX century. The analysis of normative legal acts in the field of criminal legal protection of water resources is being carried out. The characteristics of the composition of crimes in the field of water resources in the legis- lation of the beginning of the XIX century are given.
