In vitro conservation at short-term of shoot tips in vitro plants from the hybrid papaya IBP 42-99

Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2005, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

The development of techniques for in vitro culture of vegetable tissues brought about new alternatives for the conservation from germplasm of papaya (Carica papaya Lineo). These work was carried out with objective of determining the effect MS salts and manitol concentration, on the in vitro conservation at short-term of shoot tips in vitro plants from the hybrid papaya IBP 42-99. Ttwo concentrations of salts in semisolid culture medium 50 and 100%, supplemented with manitol 10, 20, 30 and 40 g.l -1 were used. The best results of survival were obtained with the use of MS salts 100%, supplemented with manitol 10 g.l -1 . The manitol caused growth decrease in shoot tips and allowed conservation at short-term up to six months with the employment of 10 g.l -1 of concentrations.
