Influence of Training the Metacognitive Strategies on Reading Comprehension of Students with Reading Comprehension Problem in fourth Grade of Preliminary School

Abstract
The purpose for this study is investigating the influence of training the cognitive strategies on reading comprehension of students with ready comprehension problem during 2013- 2014 as well as studying the predicting power of reading comprehension score by the scores of other lessons of students and determining the difference of reading comprehension of students with reading comprehension based on gender. The statistical population are all fourth grade students of Amol city during 2013- 2014 being 4181 students. For this purpose, there were sampled 206 students in the fourth grade of preliminary school (95 males and 111 females) who were studying in the public schools were examined with reading comprehension pre-test (Persian Book of fourth grade). Among this group, 60 students (30 females and 30 males) who received the score less than 50% (under 10 out of 20) were selected as sample groups. These people had words reading ability but they were unable to use words reading for receiving the concept from the context. All subjects had average age of 10 years. Sample group were selected randomly into two groups, i.e. test group (15 females and 15 males) and control group (15 females and 15 males). Test group were trained by cognitive strategies for 6 weeks during 6 sessions of 30 minutes and after this period, the performance of both groups were compared in comprehension post-test. The validity of this test was confirmed by the opinions of specialists and professors and its reliability was also calculated and obtained about 0.89. Results indicate the positive effect of training the metacognitive strategies on comprehension of test group subjects. Studying the gender differences also indicated more influence of female students than males in training the strategies.
