Insight into Origins and Evaluation of Concepts for Roads to Independent Polish State Reflections on 100th Anniversary of Regaining Independence
Journal Title: Chorzowskie Studia Polityczne - Year 2018, Vol 15, Issue
Abstract
This occasional overview paper, rather reflective than research-oriented, is an attempt to recollect the facts and sources related to the historical phenomenon of the survival of the Polish nation which was germanized, russified and repressed for over one hundred and twenty years under foreign rule. The term phenomenon is used as, among other things, it was exactly when the Polish nation was formed embracing all social classes and strata. The efforts and struggle for own state and the Polish culture formed the national consciousness which became the main source of survival and the motivation to fight and work for the dream home-land. In the context of reflecting on the centennial of the rebirth of the Polish state, an attempt was made to revisit the external and internal factors that influenced the path to independence. The article also presents the disputes and controversies over the matters which, in relation to some problems, have prevailed for over one hundred years and are occasionally evoked by politicians and used in the current political struggle.
