Investigation of Effluent Microbial Quality of Wastewater Treatment Natural systems in Term of Parasitic Contamination with the Purpose of Reuse for Agricultural Irrigation – A Case Study
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 10
Abstract
Microbial quality been considered as the most important characters when effluent is reused for irrigation or aquaculture. Effluent mmicrobial quality of wastewater treatment natural systems in term of parasitic contamination with the purpose of reuse for agricultural Irrigation. In within the period of six months, Samples were taken at the inlet and outlet of each treatment plant (weekly). In total, 144 samples were analysed by modified Bailenger Method. (using the McMaster counting slide). Results showed that the average removal efficiency of helminth eggs and protozoa cysts in wetland process was 99.7±0.23 % and 100%. While no helminth eggs and protozoa cysts were observed in effluent of both stabilization ponds systems therefore the efficient removal of both parameters in these systems were 100% estimated. In all three treatment plants, effluent the maximum number of helminth egg was related to Ascaris lumbricoides. According to the results, performance of three treatment plants was favourable in term of helminth eggs and protozoa cysts removal and there were no significant differences between them (Pvalue> 0.05). Therefore, the effluent quality of all three WTPs was in compliance with Engelberg Index in the term of nematode egg (Engelberg indicator: number of nematode egg per litter <1).
