INVESTIGATION OF FENOFIBRATE SOLUBILITY IN THE PRESENCE OF CHITOSAN
Journal Title: Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and its Derivatives - Year 2012, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
Fenofibrate is an active substance which is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, but it is characterized by limited solubility. Due to a wide spectrum of its pharmacological activity, it would be beneficial to improve its solubility, and thus increase the drug absorption capability. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of chitosan on the solubility of fenofibrate incorporated into this polymer carrier. The study investigated fenofibrate in solid dispersions at the drug to polymer ratio of 3:7,5:5,7:3. The solubility investigation was performed by means of a dynamic method in a dissolution apparatus; mean amount of dissolved fenofibrate and the drug to polymer quantitative ratio in which the solid dispersion possessed the most beneficial properties improving the drug solubility were calculated. The study revealed a multi-fold increase (from 33 to 50 times) in fenofibrat solubility in the presence of chitosan, which increased with duration of the study and with increasing percentage of the polymer in formulations. The obtained results may help develop new technologies for fenofibrate preparations with chitosan, with better solubility characteristics, and thus increased bioavailability of the drug.

EFFECT OF OLIGOCHITOSANS ON EXPRESSION OF INOS GENE IN EHRLICH ASCITES TUMOUR IN VITRO
Oligochitosans obtained through degradation of macromolecules of chitosan with a high degree of deacetylation turned out to be biologically active, contributing to an increase of nitric oxide levels in Ehrlich ascites tu...
PLA MICROGRANULES USED AS CARRIERS OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCES PREPARED BY EMULSIFICATION IN CHITOSAN SOLUTION
The aim of research was the preparation of poly(lactide) and chitosan composite of spherical structures by emulsyfication of both polymers solutions. This resulted in fabrication of PLA microstructures (mPLA) suspended i...
INVESTIGATION OF INACTIVATION OF CHITIN DEACETYLASE IN A MEMBRANE REACTOR
Enzymes are protein that can lose its activity because of several physical and chemical factors. It was shown for several enzymes that mixing in a reactor, pumping could inactivate them. Using experimental set-up it is n...
HETEROGENEOUS DEACETYLATION OF CHITIN DEGRADED WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN A MICROWAVE FIELD
Two-step procedure of obtaining chitosan with tailored properties has been elaborated. In the first step chitin from the shells of krill (Euphausia superba) and common shrimp (Crangon crangon [L.]) was subjected simultan...
CHEMICAL MODIFICATION OF CHITOSAN WITH FATTY ACIDS
This paper presents the results of chitosan modification with fatty acids, namely linoleic and oleic acid. We used carbodiimide as the initiator for the reaction of carboxyl and aminoglycoside functional groups. The anal...
