ISSUES RELATED TO THE FORMATION OF THE GRAPHIC COMPETENCIES OF THE STUDENTS OBTAINING ARCHITECTURAL AND ARTISTIC SPECIALTIES

Abstract
Today, there are continuous changes in education. The gradual process of improving educational activities sets out new requirements for training in the higher education system of Ukraine, which necessitates constant monitoring of the quality of the progress and control over the formation of graphic competencies of the students obtaining architectural and artistic specialties in particular. The relevance of this study is based on the need to help students of architectural and artistic specialties to create graphic competencies. The main goal of the research is to search for various methodologies and methods for developing and improving the graphic competencies of the students majoring in Architecture and Arts. The research base has been presented by the generalized data of long-term results of control tasks, tests, oral surveys etc. while teaching graphic disciplines to the first and third year students majoring in Architecture at Odessa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and to the first and second year students majoring in Arts at the State institution “South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushynsky”. Empirical data have been obtained in the educational process of the following graphic disciplines: «Descriptive Geometry», «Art of font», «Drawing», «Painting and colouring», «Fine Art», taking into account the pre-university training of the first-year students. These disciplines have been chosen, as they are basic in the acquisition of professional skills as well as in the formation of the future specialists’ creative activities in the sphere of architecture and arts. Some recommendations for improving the educational process in order to develop integrated approaches to teaching of graphic disciplines, taking into account the necessity to humanize architectural and artistic education, have been presented in the article. It should be noted, that the recommendations were based on long-term experience in the authors’ practical teaching; they are annually used and refined. The necessity to create a consistent, individually-directed training targeted to the first year students, or even to the students in the pre-university period: in preparatory courses, in art schools, etc. has been noted. However, it should be stated that the problems related to the professional training targeted to the future specialists alongside with the formation of graphic competencies require additional research.
