Abstract

The author takes up a discussion around the silhouette of a prominent Czech scientist Jan Amos Komeński, referring to his political, theological, philosophi-cal and pedagogical views. His statement is thus another sketch to a portrait of this scholar. As regards the analysis and discussion over his life, a special place of his life-time career is occupied by the time he spent during his stay in Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth after being banished from the Czech Republic, during which he revealed an attitude hostile to his new, chosen somewhat against his will, state. His activities as an agent lead to a more critical look at his personality and political activi-ty. Critical questions also appear in relation to his theological and philosophical views, and his concept on pedagogy.
