Abstract

Seagrass is one of coastal and marine ecosystems that have the role, function and great benefits for the survival of a wide range of coastal and marine organisms. In Sofifi Waters, seagrass ecosystem has not yet been researched. Thus this research is very important to do. The research method was using quadrants which placed regularly on five laps. The data collected was analyzed to find the level of type diversity, dominance index and density of its type. This research was conducted in Sofifi Waters on Tidore Islands. Based on the results of the analysis it was found that seagrass Enhalus acroides has highest of cover percentage and the dominance index, followed by Syringodium tisoitifolium which has 0368 of diversity value. Ecological conditions or hydro oceanography is good where temperature, salinity and pH are suitable for seagrass growth. There are sand-muddy and sandy-mud substrates found on the fifth lap of research. In general, Seagrass ecosystem conditions are very good and very supporting for growth of seagrass. The future need for research is to identify the types of seagrass in North Maluku.
