Kinetics of the decreasing chemiluminescence in oils from seeds of evening primrose and rape induced with electromagnetic radiation (UV-A) and ozonization

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2010, Vol 31, Issue 2

Abstract

Influence of electromagnetic irradiation of UV-A (315–400 nm) and ozonization on the kinetics of decreasing luminescence in oils from seeds of evening primrose and rapeseed was examined. The character of the decay of chemiluminescence (CL) was determined. The physicochemical parameters of oils i.e. acid value, content of unsaponifiable matter, peroxide value, color, content of pigments from carotenoid and chlorophyll groups and content of antioxidants i.e. tocopherols, polyphenols and sterols were also determined. The following regularities were observed:– Decay rate constants of CL remain of the same order of value, i.e. they are independent of the irradiation time.– The CL process is being continued for a longer time after irradiation (slow process).– The fast component is related to the presence of chlorophyll pigments. The ozonation process increases the number of radicals in samples and it has a substantial influence on the CL intensity value and on the parameters of CL decay kinetics.
