Abstract
This review article constitutes a discussion on the book by Ewa Toniak titled “Death of a hero. The theme of heroic death in Polish art and literature since the Kosciuszko Uprising to demonstrations in 1861” (“Śmierć bohatera. Motyw śmierci heroicznej w polskiej sztuce i literaturze od powstania kościuszkowskiego do manifestacji 1861”, Gdańsk 2015). The text discusses the most important themes chosen by the reviewer, including homoeroticism in male body portrayals in eighteenth and nineteenth century art, processing the theme of Polonia and methodological issues concerning intersemiotic research.
