Kolonialne fantazje i kolonialne koszmary w „Zemście” Bolesława Prusa

Abstract

olonial Fantasies and Colonial Nightmares in Bolesław Prus’s Revenge The first part of the paper, starting from the colonial concepts in the short story Revenge (Zemsta) (juxtaposing them with excerpts from chronicles, The Doll [Lalka] and The Outpost [Placówka]) focuses on the ratio of Boleslaw Prus’ attitude towards colonization and eugenic concepts that were popular in the second half of nineteenth century (also in the context of H.G. Wells’s Anticipations and, polemical against Social Darwinism, Evolution and Ethics by sir T. Huxley). The second part of the paper shows popularity of the “second Poland on emigration” theme in Roman Dmowski’s considerations and Maria Rodziewiczówna’s popular patriotic novel Following the Swallow’s Trail (Jaskółczym szlakiem).
