Коммуникативная компетентность у специалистов, работающих в социальном секторе [Communicative competence of social sector workers]

Abstract

Political and economic transformations that are taking place in the modern world inevitably lead to to social changes thus increasing the number of challenges faced by modern society. Under the influence of crisis, one is confronted with many social and economic problems that may lead to stress, depression, social inhibition, interpersonal conflicts and other negative conditions and phenomena. The resolution of social problems and stabilization of the society is hardly possible without social organizations, programs and social assistance with the leading role of social workers. An important prerequisite of effective social work is establishing a contact with the client. It means that an efficient social worker should have good communication skills to be able to build effective communication links with the client. The social worker's good communicative competence helps them develop effective communication strategies that determine the social work effectiveness. In order to identify the communicative competence of social workers the author conducted a pilot study using the Michelson Communication Skills questionnaire. The sample was made up of the participants of the project "Psychological aid to people, refresher training, supervision and field work of specialists in groups to improve social services sector in Ukraine." The project's main goal was to improve the quality of psychosocial services for the needy in Ukraine. The project was done with the financial and methodological support from the 'Action of solidarity of German Catholics with people from Central and Eastern Europe', Renovabis, Germany. Analysis of the results of the study showed that, although social workers' communication skills need further investigation and development, the respondents' communicative competence, on the whole, met the requirements for social workers' communication skills.
