Księgi miejskie jako źródło do dziejów konwentów dominikańskich na przykładzie ksiąg miejskich Łęczycy

Abstract
Tomasz Stolarczyk THE MUNICIPAL BOOKS AS SOURCE OF HISTORIES OF DOMINICAN CONVENTS ON EXAMPLE OF MUNICIPAL BOOKS OF ŁĘCZYCA Among historical resources of Dominican Convent in Łęczyca, there are such items like codex of convent documents, records of province chapters and township/borough books of Łęczyca, but one should also enumerate the magistrate books of Łęczyca. At present the books are stored at the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw. Twenty two of those were preserved – these are: records of commune head, town council records, the court of appeal records, minutes of Łęczyca magistrate sessions and records of the town major from years 1791–1795, varia. The oldest preserved book of Łęczyca magistrate is the book of commune head of 1560–1566 (tome I). Latin language prevails in 5 tomes, Polish is present in 9 tomes and 8 tomes were written in Polish entirely. There are 8 leather tomes, 7 are half-bound in leather, 2 are bound in paper and 5 toms are not bound. Few of the tomes are fragmented and damaged (these are tomes II, IV and XXIII). In the magistrate records of Łęczyca there are merely 11 notes about local Dominican Convent and they are only from XVIII century (the oldest reference on Dominican Convent dated on 24th of October 1727 and the last one comes from the year 1790). Despite that these references are very important for the restoration of history of the Convent. Owing to them one can learn about Preacher Brethrens’ properties, their income resources like rents. The names of Saint Dominic’s sons who stayed in Łęczyca monastery were also mentioned in those books. That resource provides one with information about conducted strife and litigations between burghers and monks from Saint Stanisław and Saint Dorota convents on breweries, controversy lands, rents, illegal cattle pasture on town land by Dominican’s landsmen or assaults of monastic servants on Łęczyca citizens.
