Ku Europie plemion – partykularyzm grupowy i zmierzch solidaryzmu społecznego

Abstract

Current discussion on the consequences of modernity, and social effects of the ongoing globalization of the world more and more frequently focus on the fact that nowadays an increasing number of signs of the world’s unification, and at the same time tendencies to divide it not necessarily according to the designated national borders, are becoming visible. The attempts of worldwide unification created opposite reactions, concentrated on protection of what is local. Various types of separatisms, nationalisms, localisms, regionalisms, fundamentalisms and individualisms are beginning to emerge. Lost in the modern, anonymous world, people look for a point of reference, a supporting community which they could identify with. „Tribal mentality” appears in the modern world, and that the so‑called „tribalization” had become a characteristic feature of socio‑political life of the modern man. Tribalism reveals itself, inter alia, in behaviour of ethnic groups, which feel isolated or find themselves in hostile surroundings. In the face of danger, defense reactions appear. Moreover, typical features of tribalism are attitudes that prefer tribal, caste and communal values to the ones of a individual or a nation. Also, through attachment to particular groups – gangs, sects or other exclusive communities – and rejection of other communities, tribalism implies „a search for identity”. The ongoing process of tribalization is a main challenge for the idea of creating common European community.
