La littérature de banlieue aux couleurs de la langue des cités. Une rhétorique de l’argot dans Cités à comparaître de Karim AMELLAL et Dit violent de Mohamed RAZANE

Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2016, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

Considered as writers of suburbs, of bitumen or even of cities, Karim AMELLAL and Mohamed RAZANE, co-founders of the collective of writers and artists Qui fait la France? (‘Who make France?’), tried to enrich the French literature with other forms of artistic expression, namely rap and cinema. These French authors of Maghrebian origin have anchored, each in his own manner, their literary works in the current social reality. Anchoring which passes by the language and by the staging of the daily marginal protagonists from the sensitive and disadvantaged districts of the Parisian suburbs. This anchoring passes also by the language because these authors have gone beyond the standard French and seized, voluntarily, “the language of the cities”. In this contribution, we will briefly study Cités à comparaître (‘Cities to appear‘) novel by Karim AMELLAL, and Dit violent (‘Violent say‘) novel by Mohamed RAZANE. Our analysis consists in drawing from the popular, argotic and raw linguistic continuum of the protagonists of the elements, which make of it a sought-after language. The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the use of this oral language in perpetual evolution does not diminish the degree of literality of these works, which formalize it. In other words, this analysis of the scriptural and aesthetic techniques of the two authors will account for the interaction between “la langue des cites” and the literature.
