La place de l’argot dans la diversification lexicographique chinoise des XXe et XXIe siècles
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The reflection on slang's nature and the review of its vocabulary minutely classified in corporate trades led from the beginning of the 20th century to highly interesting outcomes, crowning the long lexicographical Chinese tradition. The coming to power of the Communist party, which still presides over the fate of China, did not put an end to the development of slang studies. The given orientations, at the instigation of the authorities, in the re-search field on popular culture, as well as the major projects of reform on writing, even resulted in useful works for the knowledge of slang, even though such was not their objective. This partial continuity was made possible especially because of the conceptual vagueness surrounding the definition of the scientific disciplines concerned by slang. However, this vague-ness tended to increase, once finished the publication of the main reference books in slang lexicography in the middle of the 1990s. The general evolution of the research field probably weighed more on the evolution of lexicography. It tended to favour fashionable related subjects, such as the evolution of popular language, its spread on the Internet or the influence of English. Nevertheless, this work is so much filled with prejudices denied by the facts that it is impossible to gain a documentary or theoretical benefit from it for the slang study. On the contrary, it is the history of the studies of Chinese slang that enables to better understand these new trends.
