L’ANAPHORE PRONOMINALE EN FRANÇAIS CLASSIQUE ET EN FRANÇAIS MODERNE : RAPPORTS ANAPHORIQUES AMBIGUS VS RAPPORTS ANAPHORIQUES NON-AMBIGUS

Abstract

This contribution will focus on the study of the repository operation of Demonstrative Pronouns in the memoirs of Jean-François de Retz and Flaubert sentimental education. There are certainly many studies that became interested in the analysis of this type of pronouns, but our contribution towards everything what came before is to focus on the process of benchmarking of the demonstrative pronouns and their role in the informational organization. Starting from example attested sentences, we will try to show that it is often difficult to resolve some anaphoric reports, mainly when it comes to relate the anaphoric pronoun to its antecedent. Our aim is also to show that the texts of the classical period are difficult to interpret by the modern reader because the latter is obliged to solve some ambiguous anaphoric reports that act directly on the textual coherence and informational organization.
