LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STRATEGIES FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING: CLIMATE CHANGE POLICIES LANDSCAPE STATEMENT

Journal Title: PEYZAJ - Journal of Education, Science, Culture and Art - Year 2021, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

The threats posed by climate change are enormous and there is no single strategy to solve the climate crisis. As we strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions wherever possible, reduction requires "baseline above all" approach. This paper was prepared by using the infromation from the existing literature as well as the information from personal experience, and seeks answers to the following questions: What is the ecological importance of Landscape Architecture?. Why do we need climate change policies?, What are the proposed approaches in the field of Landscape Architecture? Which good practices are there? In the statement, climate positive design, reduction of urban heat island effect, storm water management, master plans and zoning regulations, waste management, clean air, renewable energy resources and landscape management, climate adaptation advocacy and commitments, and the examples of inspiring projects were conveyed. The Landscape Architecture profession has the potential to lead design for climate change. Landscape architects continue to do their part to design landscapes and open and green spaces that will become carbon neutral by 2030, and to keep the per capita global temperature gain 1,5 °C below the critical threshold, as specified by the Intergovernmental Climate Panel.
