Abstract
The article characterizes linguistic peculiarities of texts memories by K. Malytska, the cycle of stories for children of secondary school age «Small Heroes», a number of articles as well as archival material. The analysis allows to reveal the peculiarities of the Ukrainian language usage by the Galician intelligentsia at the turn of the XIX – the XX centuries, to highlight social aspects of the Ukrainian language functioning in Eastern Galicia in the de¿ nite period, to indicate the lexical semantic peculiarities of the regional functioning of the Ukrainian language on western Ukrainian lands. We consider the research of the role of the Galician intelligentsia in the formation of the Ukrainian literary language norms of the late XIX – the early XX centuries to be actual and the language units used by this social group joined the lexical fund of the Ukrainian language and they inÀ uenced the formation of the koine of the educated class of Eastern Galicia, its sociolect as an independent system-structural phenomenon and were reÀ ected in the form and meaning lexical, phraseological and grammar units of modern Ukrainian language.
