TEACHING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS EDUCATIONAL DISCIPLINES IN ENGLISH AS A FACTOR OF TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT
Journal Title: Актуальні питання гуманітарних наук: Міжвузівський збірник наукових праць молодих вчених Дрогобицького державного педагогічного університету - Year 2018, Vol 21, Issue 1
Abstract
The article is devoted to the problems of transnational education development. The authors state that the processes of globalization and the need for higher education to meet international requirements lead to the transformation of univer- sity education, in particular pedagogical. The teaching staff of any higher educational institution consists of graduates of the master’s programmes, therefore, it is expedient to teach educational disciplines in English, first of all, among the master’s degree undergraduates. The steady growth of academic mobility of both students and teachers has transformed higher education into an important segment of international trade. The competitive struggle for every student is being conducted all over the world, and most of the educational institutions from leading countries are actively involved in the training of foreign students. In the conditions of globalization and trans-nationalization of the educational process new methodological problems arise, in particular, the unpreparedness of non-philological educational disciplines teachers to lecture on their subjects in English. Therefore, nowadays the English language proficiency should be the main point of professional development of non-philological educational disciplines teachers. In Ukraine, the possibility of teaching certain subjects in foreign languages is recognized at the legislative level. In order to create conditions for international academic mobility, higher educational institutions have the right to decide on the teaching of one or more disciplines in English and/or other foreign languages, while ensuring that the students of higher education acquire appropriate disci- pline in the state language. So Ukraine has examples of teaching English in Economics, Informatics and Law disciplines, which are carried out by Ukrainian professors of specialized disciplines or invited specialists from abroad. Introduction of compulsory teaching undergraduate students of pedagogical higher school’s various educational disciplines in the English language is considered as one of the most effective ways of raising the level of foreign language competence of the potential scientific and teaching staff. By the example of the academic discipline «Methodology of Scientific Researches» the authors prove timeliness, topicality and necessity of teaching educational disciplines in English to the applicants of the Master’s degree. Taking into account the fact that now entrants to Master’s degree programmes have to pass the exam in foreign languages, it is quite appropriate that the undergraduates must be taught educational disciplines in English. This approach will also encourage younger students to study English more seriously. That is why, after a few years, the teaching of both professional and general educational disciplines in English can be extended to junior courses.
