LIPID PEROXIDATION IN BLOOD OF KAYAKERS AFTER WHOLE-BODY CRYOSTIMULATION AND TRAINING

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2007, Vol 23, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the influence of whole-body criostimulation preceding physical exercise on blood concentration of lipid peroxida-tion products in canoeists. Material and methods. Twenty one canoeists were subjected to 10-day training and each training session was preceeded by whole-body criostimulation procedure. Canoeists entered cryochamber twice a day for 3 minutes in temperature from -120°C to -140°C. Before training cycle with criostimulation canoeists were subjected to control training without cryostimulation. At the beginning of the training cycle and after 6th and 10th day of the training venous blood samples were taken. Conjugated diens (CD) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentrations were measured in plasma and in erythrocytes. Results. The comparison of training with and without cryostimulation revealed, that plasma CD concentration after 6th day of training with cryostimulation was 36% lower (p<0.01), and erythrocyte CD concentration 40% lower (p<0.001) than during ordinary training. By contrast, after the 10th day of training with cryostimulation ery-throcyte CD concentration was 84% (p<0.05) higher than non-cryostimulated. TBARS concentration in canoeists' plasma after 6th day of training was twice as low as with-out cryostimulation (p<0.001), and after 10th day it was 31% lower (p<0.01). Erytro-cyte TBARS concentration after 6th day was 73% higher (p<0.001) than without cryo-stimulation. Conclusions. Whole-body cryotherapy preceding canoeists training induces po-sitive adaptive changes in cells protecting organism from prooxidative-antioxidative equilibrium disturbances.
