Management and outcomes of carcinoma breast:A retrospective and a prospective observational study

Abstract

Background: The cancer of breast is a biologically diverse disease, with its uncertain cause has captured the attention of physicians throughout the ages. It is second most common carcinoma occurring in female next to carcinoma cervix.Material and Methods: 30 patient in prospective group and 20 patient in retrospective group who were suffering from carcinoma of the breast, registered in our district hospital between September 2014 to august 2016 were included in this study.Objectives:To study predisposing factors, clinical presentation,analyse multimodality treatment at our our hospital,and evaluate patient on the basis of disease free period metastatic/locregional spread during follow up. Results: In our study maximum patient (36%) were in age group of 41-50 years, with mean age of 49.22 years, and mean BMI of 50 patients was 25.42. 11 patients (22%) had early menarche before 11 year. In present study maximum 38 (76%) patients were multiparous, 8 (16%) patients were uniparous and 4 (8%) patients were nulliparous. 4 patients (8%) had their first pregnancy after 30 yearand 10% patient never breastfeed. In present study, 27 (54%) patients were postmenopausal and 23 (46%) patients were premenopausal.Of 50 patients, 2 patients underwent breast conservative surgery for stage 1 disease, 29 patients subjected to MRM, 15 patient received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by MRM, three patients diagnosed with distant metastasis were subjected to palliative chemoradiotherapy.Most common postoperative complication was seroma formation in 36% patient. patients were on regular follow up for minimum period of 6 month and median duration was 2 year, 3 patients developed local recurrence, 1 patient developed systemic metastasis and 2 patient died during follow up.
