Mediowanie pamięci – o pinhole raz jeszcze
Journal Title: Kultura Popularna - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 48
Abstract
An article discusses two issues: continuous returnsof archaic photographic techniques in artisticpractice and a circulation of “technical”memory (or as Jacques Derrida called it – “artificial”memory, hypomnesis) in media, which aredestined to its storage. In my opinion, it is aninterplay of theory and practice that enlightenthe significance of bygone technologies for contemporaryculture. That is why, though a theoreticalground for my reflection is founded onconcepts by among the others Siegfried Zielinski,VilémFlusser, Sean Cubitt and José van Dijck,I analyse two case studies from the domain ofart. The first issue: a return to archaic photographyis presented on the example of Selfcreatures(Autotwory) a series of works by JarosławKlupś,the second: a circulation of memory is based onThe Dichotomy of Nests (Dychotomiagniazd) byGeorgia Krawiec. The text is divided into threeparts. The first presents a brief description ofpinhole photography and a history of its artisticre‑interpretations, the second focuses on thedifference in reception of recording of the pastand pre‑digitaland digital media, and finallyin the third one, I direct towards a mechanismof circulation of ideas, which are visualised bywide understood media.
