Abstract
Methods of Presenting Forests on Maps.The article deals with methods of presenting and describing forest areas on maps of various types. The following groups are analysed separately: topographic maps (Figs. 1–3), forest maps (Figs. 4–5) and tourist maps (Fig. 6). Examples are taken from both old and modern maps. The ways in which forests are depicted on the analysed maps are very varied. The system of representation of information depends on the scale of the map and its intended purpose. The graphical method of presenta-tion is also dependent on the period when the map was made. Mapmakers in former times made a proper use of the language of the map, like today‟s cartographers; they merely had much more restricted technical capabilities
