MODERN UKRAINIAN HISTORIOGRAPHY OF THE UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT OF THE FIRST HALF OF 1940s: STATE AND PERSPECTIVES OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Abstract
The article analyses main research tendencies and perspectives of the modern Ukrainian historiography of the key aspects of history of the Ukrainian independence movement during the German-Soviet war of 1941–1945. The article characterises the increasing availability of documents and scientific sources. It emphasises recent research activity of Ukrainian historians in this particular field, which has been triggered by the 75th anniversary of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The article deals with the understudied issues of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Ukrainian Nationalist Organization strategy and tactics, with the ideology of the Ukrainian national liberation movement and its evolution. It also dwells on the problem of a reasonable vs. accidental appearance of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The article also highlights modern theoretical and methodological approaches towards this problem as they are connected with the methods of social and cultural history, micro-historical researches, study of the local context, implementation of the anthropological and prosopographical approaches, principles of the historical bibliography.
