МУЛЬТИКУЛЬТУРАЛІЗМ ЯК СОЦІОКУЛЬТУРНИЙ ФЕНОМЕН СУЧАСНОСТІ: АМБІВАЛЕНТНІСТЬ ПІДХОДІВ

Abstract
Up-to-date discussions regarding assessment of multiculturalism and its prospects are generalised in the article; perception of multiculturalism as a strategy to preserve cultural differences or its interpretation as a new form of racism. Several approaches as radical-critical, national-conservative, liberal-innovative, civil-democratic and multicultural are singled out depending on the interpretation of this phenomenon. Particular attention deserves a multicultural approach, according to which, firstly, "we are all multiculturalists now" and any form of multiculturalism is now inevitable; secondly, multiculturalism is a concept of society development that provides equality of all ethnic groups, languages and cultures, their right to life and the support from the state; thirdly, multiculturalism denotes dialogue and cooperation between cultures on the basis of common values while maintaining ethnic, linguistic and cultural identity of each ethnic group; fourth, multiculturalism excludes any attempts of forced assimilation or joining one ethnic group to another.
