Nauczyciele w odrodzeniu Polski i człowieka w narracji Stanisława Mauersberga
Journal Title: Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
Stanisław Witold Mauersberg lived in 1924-2012. He was born in Godziembów (Lubartów county) in a teachers’ family as the only child of Antoni, the headmaster of a local primary school, and Anna – a teacher. Stanisław Mauersberg is an example of an outstanding teacher and educator, a master scholar and a noble man. He was introduced to pedagogy by his mother, and he learned the scholarly arts at the Warsaw University and the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He was an advocate for the Polish educational tradition and a keen observer of social life, as well as the author of foundational scholarly publications – both books and articles in national periodicals and collections. He was also one of the pillars of the editorial board of Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy, a quarterly publication of the Polish Teachers’ Association. He specialised in history of education, particularly in the 20th century, including issues of pedagogical theory, adult education, education of minorities, legal problems pertaining to schools, as well as the influence of ideology and policy on education. Because he was keenly aware of his mission in society and spiritually sensitive, he reserved in his work a place of honour for teachers, who were, in his opinion, responsible for the remaking of Poland and of man. On 19th February 1981 the State Council honoured Stanisław Mauersberg with the title of professor of humanities.
