Art price index. Preliminary investigation for selected Polish painters

Abstract
Art has been treated as an alternative financial instruments and it’s popularity has been increasing. The aim of our investigation is construction a hedonic art price index for the selected Polish painters whose artworks was sold at auctions in years 2007 –2010. In the paper we present preliminary results of our investigation. The hedonic price index is the method used to produce quality adjusted price index. The hedonic regression models, estimated for 3 samples of artworks, include characteristics such as name and living status of the artist, the size and medium of the painting, and year in which the painting was sold.
