FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF FLOATING MATRIX TABLETS OF CIPROFLOXACIN

Abstract
ABSTRACT Gastro retentive dosage forms have the potential use as control released systems. For prolonged gastric retention floating drug delivery is of particular interest, for drugs which, act locally in the stomach, primarily absorbed in the stomach or upper intestine, poorly soluble at alkaline pH, have a narrow window of absorption, and are unstable in the intestinal pH. With the sustained release floating matrix tablets of prolonging gastric residence time with controlled release mechanisms achieves improved patient compliance. Gastric retention drug delivery systems can be retained in stomach for a long time, such systems which are retained in stomach are important for drugs which are easily degraded .present work is to formulate sustained release floating matrix tablets of ciprofloxacin using different polymeric concentrations and evaluating all formulations and notifying the optimized formulation. In present investigation the effect of different concentrations of different polymers (HPMC K4M and HPMC K100M) on the drug release from Ciprofloxacin floating matrix tablets were studied. The tablets were subjected to all physical characteristics evaluation, formulation containing F8 and F9 showed desired duration of floating time for 9 hours, and drug release.
