New research areas in human resources management – the science and the practice

Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2012, Vol 11, Issue 3

Abstract

The question leading to the composition of this article was: what kind of important prob¬lems are there and will be in the coming years and their solutions attractive for the practice of management? What issues should be the object of interest for the science of HR management in order to seek synergies between the theory and practice of management? Practitioners often find a gap between the subjects researched by the scientists and those required by busi¬nesses. Therefore one issue seems to be of profound importance: how to assure the unity of the actions of scientists and practitioners? How to enhance the empirical value of scientific research? The answers to those questions found in the article are based on the recognition of new problems emerging in the practice of HR management. The first issue analyzed in the article is of work diversity management. The main ques¬tion here was: how can work diversity be used and how does it influence on the efficiency of work? Second relevant question concerned performance management. Firstly, from the scien¬tific and business point of view it is interesting to evaluate immaterial costs and effects of work, and secondly the identification of work efficiency factors in the organization. The last mentioned subject is the development of HR functions in organizations. There are three new study areas here: IT support for HRM; evaluation of HRM processes; analysis of personnel resources. In conclusion, another topic can be proposed, especially as a task for science: development of HRM in small business.
