NON-VERBAL EXPLICATION WAYS OF SOCIAL STATUS IN CHEKHOV’S PROSE

Abstract
In this article we talk about the information that is transmitted in non-verbal way by means of signs. Such information is transferred by the author into the subtext. The reader should interpret such information taking to account his own basic world knowledge. The problem of correct interpretation is because of cultural gap between reader and author. It happens during intercultural communication, or in way, when text belongs to the other time period. The article analyzes the signs and symbols of social status, their implementation in Chekhov’s prose. Of particular interest is the type of sign systems of non-verbal semiotics. Signs of a fiction text are reviewed by a multidisciplinary approach to the problem. Also during the research we found out indexes of high / low social status of studied time period of Russian society.
