Abstract
The aim was to make, from the analysis of Marilda Iamamoto, a discussion on the thesis to be a social work one specializations work. It seeks, from reading it to be defended by the social worker’s job doubly determined (useful work and abstract), bringing to light the controversy, acknowledged by the author herself, which is locked in the university environment. Sergio Lessa is one of the authors who refutes this thesis. For him not to make the exchange with the organic nature, the social worker doesn’t perform work, integrates the parasitic classes or transition, as Marx said, he conform. Finally, a controversy that goes through the discussion on productive and unproductive work, collective worker, etc. And, to some extent, the reader can take part in the pages following.
