Journal Title: Slavia Orientalis - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 3
Abstract
The main topic of this article is image of Petersburg in Zinaida Gippius diaries written during World War I, the Russian Revolution and Civil War. Petersburg is the principal component of the composition in the diaries. This is not only the place, where notes are made, but also it is the one of the main characters in diaries. The writer inseparably connects it with the idea of history, and emphasized that the events which take place in Petersburg determine the fate of Russia. The image of the city created by Gippius is a part of the rich tradition of "the Petersburg text", whose main creators were Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Nikolai Nekrasov, Alexander Blok, Andrei Bely. In her diaries Zinaida Gippius tries to expand "the Petersburg text", completing the myth of the city "creation" by adding the eschatological myth - the story of its destruction
