Occupational burnout of nurses working in stationary wards with patients abusing alcohol

Abstract
Aim. The aim of the study was to diagnose the occurrence of occupational burnout in a self-assessment of nurses working in wards with patients abusing alcohol and to analyze the determinants of this phenomenon. Material and methods. The study was conducted among 44 nurses working in wards treating alcohol addiction. The study used the following method of research: a diagnostic survey with the use of auditorium techniques carried out with an authorial questionnaire. Results. It has been observed that the burnout affected the nurses only to a minor extent. Psychological knowledge and both intra- and interpersonal skills of the nurses reduce symptoms connected with the occupational burnout syndrome. Job satisfaction of nurses is conditioned by interpersonal relations, social support, work orderliness, a level of job efficiency and self-efficacy. An efficient and conscious management of an organization is the basis to create conditions for a healthy work environment. Reduction or elimination of negative factors responsible for the emergence of symptoms of the burnout syndrome can contribute to a high level of job satisfaction with working in a hospital.
