On Suprasubjective Existence in Mathematics
Journal Title: Studia Semiotyczne - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 2
Abstract
The professional mathematician is a Platonist with regard to the existence of mathematical entities, but, if pressed to tell what kind of existence they have, he hides behind a formalist approach. In order to take both attitudes into account in a possibly serious way, the concept of suprasubjective existence is proposed. It involves intersubjective existence, plus a stress on objectivity devoid of actual objects. The idea is illustrated, following William Byers, by the phenomenon of the rainbow: it is not an object but can be said to possess a subjective objectivity.

Kategoria wyjaśniania a filozofia matematyki Gödla
Artykuł dotyczy zagadnienia, w jakim sensie można stosować kategorię wyjaśnienia (charakterystyczną raczej dla nauk empirycznych) do interpretacji filozofii matematyki Kurta Gödla. Gödel – jako realista matematyczny – tw...
Dwa modele struktury sądu
Artykuł stanowi porównanie dwóch strukturalnych teorii sądów logicznych: teorii Kazimierza Ajdukiewicza z lat sześćdziesiątych XX wieku oraz teorii Jeffreya Kinga z początku XXI wieku. Pierwsza część artykułu zawiera cha...
Semantic Deflationism, Public Language Meaning, and Contextual Standards of Correctness
The paper aims at providing an argument for a deflationary treatment of the notion of public language meaning. The argument is based on the notion of standards of correctness; I will try to show that as correctness asses...
Syntax-Semantics Interaction in Mathematics
Mathematical tools of category theory are employed to study the syntaxsemantics problem in the philosophy of mathematics. Every category has its internal logic, and if this logic is sufficiently rich, a given category pr...
Teoria sytuacji Marka Tokarza
In 2006, Marek Tokarz proposed a uniform pattern for the analysis of any language message. Such a message was named by him a situation. This allows the structure of statements in the form of the so-called situational for...
