Journal Title: Analele Universitatii „Eftimie Murgu” din Resita. Fascicola de Stiinte Social-Umaniste - Year 2016, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The legal system was the same throughout the whole Roman Empire, and the epigraphic sources from Dacia come to underline this statement once again. The latter provides an objective perspective of the legal status of woman in Dacia province based on the rules of Roman law. Position of woman in Roman society is clearly marked, and her status at the level of legal discourse is clearly defined. There are cases when the juridical position of woman is amazing. Thus, from a moral point of view there are examples in Dacia when the woman has the same social status as the man, of course in the “limits” of the already existent patriarchal regime. Although the woman’s status varies according to different social level, in Dacia, her juridical status especially linked with family relationships, was a complex ensemble of juridical and social norms which reflected the very essence of the social realities of that period.
