Paraulacizes irrorata (Fabricius, 1794) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae: Proconiini) in Mexico, with the first feeding record on Agave salmiana Otto ex Salm-Dyck in Huichapan, Hidalgo, Mexico

Journal Title: REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA - Year 2022, Vol 48, Issue 3

Abstract

A morphological redescription of the external characters of the head, thorax, and genitalia of both sexes of Paraulacizes irrorate (Fabricius) is presented. An updated distribution for Mexico and the first report feeding on Agave salmiana Otto ex Salm-Dyck in El Saucillo, Huichapan Hidalgo state are also provided. Specimens from principal Mexican collections were examined, and those collected on A. salmiana were conducted using an entomological aspirator. Paraulacizes irrorata has a preferential distribution over the Nearctic region in contrast to the rest of the species inhabiting tropical zones. Mexico housed nine of the ten species known and of these, two are endemic.
